Designer Jayne Dearborn is inspired by the people and the beauty that surround her. Encouraged as a child to be aware of style and color, she grew up in a family of architects, graphic designers, and musicians. She combined her sensitivity to texture and patterns with her passion for supporting others and created a life filled with family, work, and warmth.
In her first incarnation, Jayne had a long, rewarding career helping people as a health educator and dietician. She fell in love with Chris Dearborn, who shares her passion for family, and they settled into a busy life with children. After the birth of her third son, Jayne decided to dedicate herself to a full family life and left the corporate world behind.
But in a dramatic and unforeseen tragedy, she lost her middle son, Max, at 7 years-old, to Leukemia. Having cared for him for months during his hard-fought battle, Jayne searched for new inspiration. She started reading The Artist's Way and slowly reconnected with her creative side. She began working with fabrics and leathers, and inspired anew in Max's bedroom, started along the path toward healing. Using Max's bedroom as her creative studio, Jayne started stitching silk evening bags with beaded handles, evoking her sophisticated love of mixing media. The intricate, handmade pieces emerged as vibrant works of art and quickly developed a fan base. With each new design, Jayne felt she was coming alive again, with a renewed soul. She expanded to designing handbags for different occasions, combining colors and textures for day and evening, which appealed to her growing audience.
As boutiques in the Pacific Northwest discovered her inspired styles, a beautiful and creative entity began to grow and flourish like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. Jayne adopted the name jaynemax and a blue butterfly symbol to represent her inspiration and metamorphosis. And there is a silver lining… truly. All bags are lined with a silver design, including Max' butterfly, made by children struggling to overcome their own illnesses, a quiet reminder of the power of youth, beauty, and soulful inspiration.
